New word exercise
For Wednesday’s class, make up a new word to fill what you feel is a gap or crying need in English. After you make up your new word, discuss the following:
- explain and analyze your word’s morphology. What patterns of English word structure does it demonstrate? what will allow other speakers of English to recognize it as an English word?
- what function does this word perform? what gaping void in the universe of English does it fill? what, in other words, is it good for?
- how would you go about getting your word adopted?
