Undergraduate Program Overview
English Majors
The English Department offers two options for majors in English: "English" and "Teaching of English."
The Teaching of English option leads to certification to teach in public schools (grades 6 through 12). Students must apply to get into this program, typically in February of their sophomore year. Successful applicants complete an expanded English major and a minor in Secondary Education. All prospective Teaching of English students should see an English advisor as early as possible to go over the requirements.
Rhetoric/Creative Writing Majors
The English Department offers a Rhetoric major which focuses on Creative Writing. The major provides students significant writing experience in workshop format, as well as foundational work in literary study.
