The Program in Professional Writing (PPW) provides pre-professional opportunities for UIUC students to equip themselves to overcome the writing challenges their careers will present. Courses with the “BTW” rubric regularly provide learning experiences involving the skills and genres commonly found in:
- engineering and scientific workplaces
- business, agri-business, and government workplaces
- marketing and public relations workplaces
Some BTW courses qualify students to meet the Advanced Composition requirement at UIUC; please check the individual listings during course registration.
Through its affiliation with the Center for Writing Studies, the PPW provides expertise to the Writers Workshop and other interested parties across the university on matters germane to professional writing.
Working with and ATLAS and the Center of Innovation in Teaching and Learning (formerly Online Continuing Education), the PPW also offers online-only courses with the “BTW” rubric. Of note, most of these online courses have significant collaborative-writing and collaborative-learning components since writing in a career environment often involves working and writing with others.
Finally, through the English Department, the PPW offers an introductory course in the teaching of professional writing at the college/university level.
